Bellville Road culvert closed due to flood damage

Bellville Road’s 12-foot culvert at mile point 1.13 was damaged from recent flash foods. Repairs were said to begin Thursday, but it may take several days. There is a possibility the culvert may need to be replaced, necessitating an extended closure.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has closed a section of Ky. 1485/Bellville Road in southern Graves County due to a damaged culvert.

The road is closed at mile point 1.13 southwest of the Bell City community where recent flash flooding has damaged a 12 foot culvert that carries a small branch of Terrapin Creek.

This closure is along Ky. 1485/Bellville Road just north of the Jetton Road intersection and just over a mile north of the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line. The section connects to Boydsville Road in Tennessee.

The Graves County Highway Maintenance Crew and KYTC engineers were assessing damage to the culver today with plans to start repairs on Thursday.

Because of the depth and size of the culvert, repair work may take several days.

There is a possibility that the culvert may need to be replaced. That could require a more extended closure.

There will be no marked detour.

KYTC engineers will provide timely updates as the repair work progresses.
