PADUCAH -- Over one hundred students from 16 area middle schools participated in the annual West Kentucky Academic Association (WKAA) competition at West Kentucky Community and Technical College November 22.

Graves County took first place honors. Lone Oak, St. Mary and Reidland middle schools won second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Other participating schools were Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Crittenden, Heath, Hickman, North Marshall county middle schools, and city schools in Fulton, Mayfield, Murray and Paducah. Lone Oak Middle School had two squads at the competition. Each team played three quick recall matches. The teams were seeded to play in a 16-team single-elimination championship bracket.

"This tournament is the only time that all our middle schools get a chance to compete against one another," said Melissa Bryan, vice president of WKAA competitions."It's a great opportunity for the students see how WKCTC is setup as many of them may be attending the college in the future," she said. "We certainly appreciate WKCTC allowing us use the space each year."
