Slightly more of a partially collapsed building at 112 West Broadway apparently fell in shortly after noon Monday, calling emergency responders to the scene. A passerby thought he or she had seen smoke inside the building, but it was likely dust stirred up by further roof collapse, Mayfield Fire Chief Jeremy Creason said. The city continues to block off an alleyway next to the building to prevent people from coming closer. William Higginson, the city's code enforcement supervisor, said he is bringing the building's owner, Peter Barnett, before the board of zoning and adjustment next month as part of a condemnation case. It will be up to the board to determine whether the building is ultimately condemned and slated for demolition. Barnett will have a chance to talk about any plans he may have for repairing it instead.
