Trucks with the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department are shown on the scene of an overnight fire at the former Farmington school site.

Volunteer firefighters responded Monday night to a fire at the former Farmington High School building.

According to Graves County Emergency Management Director Tracey Warner, Farmington Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at approximately 10:45 p.m. Sedalia Volunteer Fire Department personnel and Mayfield-Graves County Fire and Rescue were also dispatched to the site, located on Hawkshaw Street behind the former Farmington Quik-Mart.

Calloway County Fire-Rescue reportedly also provided assistance at the scene.

A Farmington resident also reported hearing sirens before 11 p.m.

Warner said the rescue squad remained on the scene until approximately 2:15 a.m. Farmington Volunteer fire crews were still on the scene Tuesday morning, monitoring lingering hot spots and flames inside the structure.

The state fire marshal had been contacted, Warner said, and was expected to be on site today.
