The Kiwanis Club of Mayfield distributed about 200 coats to students in the Mayfield Head Start program on Thursday with help from a special friend.
Mayfield High School student Maddox Gore took up the mantle to play Santa Claus and hand out the coats to the students. He was assisted by other MHS Key Club members serving as Santa’s elves.
Santa and several members of the Kiwanis Club of Mayfield were joined by MHS Key Club members going from room to room at MES. In each room, Santa sat in a chair and handed the coats out to the students.
“This is an annual event that we have sponsored for many years with the help of Walmart and McDonald’s restaurants,” said John Poole, vice president of the Kiwanis Club of Mayfield. “Every child that goes to the Head Start program here is presented with a coat, and we are really pleased to be able to do that.
“It’s part of our mission to get youth involved. Our Key Club is our youth, and we want them to be involved in this giving program.”
The Kiwanis Club raises a $1,500 donation to Walmart, which provides the coats for the Head Start students.
