Two Marshall County residents were arrested Thursday after trying to escape Mayfield Police officers through Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

Officers were advised of a reckless vehicle traveling into Mayfield from Ky. 80 East. A vehicle matching the description was spotted and an officer began to follow the vehicle. The driver, Peter West, 42, of Benton, began to drive more erratically. West pulled into the parking lot of Lowe’s Home Improvement, parked the vehicle, then he and his passenger, Theresa Delavergne, 38, of Benton, exited the vehicle and ran into the store.

Mayfield Police officers and Graves County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located both subjects in the store attempting to hide. West stated he knew he had warrants for his arrest and thought the officer was coming after him.

Delavergne was also found to have a warrant for her arrest, as well.

Both West and Delavergne were arrested and taken to Graves County Jail.

West was charged with First-Degree Fleeing or Evading Police, (Motor Vehicle); Second-Degree Fleeing or Evading Police, (On Foot); Improper Turning; No Operator’s License; Failure to Signal; Reckless Driving; Disregarding Traffic Control Device (Traffic Light); Disregarding Stop Sign; and three warrants of indictment for drug-related offenses.

Delavergne was charged with Second-Degree Fleeing or Evading, (On Foot) and a probation violation warrant.
