Graves County Sheriff’s deputies and Wingo Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire Wednesday that totally destroyed a pickup truck.

At approximately 4:37 p.m., Deputy Chris Mensinger and Det. Snapper Seaton were dispatched to Ky. 58 west at Ky. 339. Travis Palmer, 29, said he was traveling west on 58 west approaching 339 when he smelled smoke. He told responders that he first thought it was coming from the vehicle in front of him, however when that vehicle turned off of Ky. 58 the smell persisted and became stronger.

Palmer stopped his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Pickup in a dirt lot and when he exited his vehicle to investigate the smell, he observed flames coming from behind the dashboard.

He closed the door and dialed 911. Wingo Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. Burl’s Towing assisted in removing the vehicle.
