Mayfield man jailed for public intoxication twice in one day

A Mayfield man charged with public intoxication at Pocket's Shell station Wednesday afternoon and taken to Graves County Jail was arrested a second time about four hours later at Walmart -- allegedly trying to steal alcohol.

Mayfield Police Chief Nathan Kent said MPD officers responded to Pockets around 5:30 p.m. in reference to an intoxicated person on the property. Contact was made with Kenneth Beauchamp, 51, of Clarkson

Beauchamp was reported having difficulty standing and displayed slurred speech. He was determined to be manifestly under the influence, arrested and taken to jail.

However, around 9 that night, MPD officers were dispatched to Walmart in reference to a man in front of the store who had stolen alcoholic beverages. On arrival, the pfficer made contact with Beauchamp again, who was allegedly observed in possession of an open alcoholic beverage.

The store's manager told police that Beauchamp was observed selecting alcoholic beverages from the store and then exiting without paying for them, according to Kent.

A store video reportedly confirmed the manager's statement. Beauchamp was again arrested and taken back to jail charged with public intoxication and theft by unlawful taking under $500 (shoplifting).

Also, Kent reported the following arrests and warrants served over the past week:

The female told police that Jackson had struck her in the face a couple times. Officers reported seeing a red mark that was swelling on her face.
