Mayfield police investigate a wreck between a Jeep and a motorcycle about 5 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 45 in front of Save A Lot.

A Sedalia man was injured in a wreck Thursday evening when a motorcycle and a Jeep collided.

Mayfield police officers responded to the wreck about 5 p.m. on U.S. 45, just north of the Dick Castleman Bypass.

Upon arrival, witnesses helped officers determine that a 2006 Jeep Patriot driven by Ralph Cook, 82, of Water Valley was driving south. Cook drove into the left turn lane and began turning into the parking lot of Save A Lot, Chief Nathan Kent said.

A 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Kenneth Helton, 61, of Sedalia, was northbound on U.S. 45 as Cook began to cross the northbound lanes. The Jeep crossed in front of the Harley, and the front of the motorcycle struck the side of the Jeep, Kent said.

Mayfield-Graves County Fire & Emergency Medical Service treated Helton on the scene before taking him to Jackson Purchase Medical Center. From there, the AirEvac medical helicopter flew Helton to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, Kent said.

In addition to the other agencies mentioned, Mayfield police were also assisted at the scene by the Graves County Sheriff's Office and Kentucky State Police.
