Dr. Shannon Jackson with the Animal Medical Center of Mayfield, his family, staff and local leaders were on hand Tuesday for a groundbreaking at the new planned clinic at 1206 Cuba Rd.

Outgrowing one location and expanding to a new one is a positive sign for a business and for Animal Medical Center of Mayfield.

Veterinarian Dr. Shannon Jackson, his family, staff and local leaders gathered at 1206 Cuba Road Tuesday afternoon on the site of the new clinic for a groundbreaking ceremony.

Work has already started on the site and a large sign marks the veterinary clinic's future location.

The current Animal Medical Center of Mayfield office is located at 1514 Cuba Rd.

Dr. Jackson said his plans to build a stand-alone clinic have been in the works for three or four years.

"We've been in business for about 12 years now and we're running out of space," he said.

Jackson said the new small animal clinic would be more than 3,600 square feet, which would more than double the clinic's current space.

"We'll offer more kennel space, more exam rooms," he said. "Just more space overall."

The Animal Medical Center of Mayfield currently employs a staff of five.

Jackson said, with favorable weather, he is looking for a spring opening.

"We're hoping to pour the concrete next week with construction soon to follow," he said. "Hopefully, by spring, we'll be open."
