Graves County deputy sheriffs said a family with four children dived for cover, and a neighbor was arrested Saturday in Pilot Oak after firing a gun.
The family was playing with their children in the yard of their home in the 2000 block of Hudson Road about 8:30 p.m. when they reported several shots were fired, and the rounds went just overhead, through the trees in the front yard.
The family fell to the ground to avoid being struck, then ran into the home and called 911. Chief Deputy Sheriff Davant Ramage drove to a nearby home where the family thought the gunfire as coming from. There he met Javier Garcia, 31, of Hudson Road.
Garcia admitted to having fired off several rounds from a .30-30 rifle and a .38-caliber pistol as well as to drinking alcohol, Ramage said. Garcia told Ramage he had been upset at the neighbor earlier but did not fire the shots out of anger and felt he was firing in a safe manner and direction, Ramage said.
Ramage arrested Garcia and charged him with six counts of wanton endangerment. The sheriff's office also confiscated his weapons as evidence in the case. Garcia was taken to the Graves County Jail.
