Helping locals with homemade, hand-crafted seasonal decorations, Relay For Life of Mayfield and Graves County is also giving the opportunity to help fight cancer.
The local American Cancer Society group is hosting a "Paint for a Purpose" paint party on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Sullivan University, located at 1102 Paris Rd., in Mayfield. Cost is $35 per person.
"They've pretty much opened their doors to Relay For Life," volunteer event chairman James Gruber said of Sullivan.
He explained that participants will be able to paint two-sided slats with any design they would like, or use stencils that will be available to paint wording such as "Welcome" or "Fall" to use as a decoration.
"Someone will be there to help," Gruber added.
Approximately 10 people have already registered for "Paint for a Purpose." Anyone interested is asked to pre-register by calling Gruber (270-804-3092) or Samantha Anderson (270-705-2092).
"The planks cost us, so we don't want to be short but we don't want to have excess either," he said.
All proceeds will support the Relay For Life of Mayfield and Graves County. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society back research, educate people on cancer prevention, and help with various support services such as transportation assistance and lodging through the organization's Hope Lodge program.
Additional information can be found at the Relay's Facebook page (Relay For Life of Mayfield and Graves County) and ACS website (secure.acsevents.org). Additional information about the cancer society can be found at www.cancer.org.
Refreshments will also be served at the painting event.
"We'll have finger foods and drinks; make it like a little brunch and painting and fellowship, and all of it to go to a good cause," Gruber added.
He said this is one of many Relay For Life fundraisers being planned. A bowling tournament is on tap for Oct. 12 at Spare Time Lanes here.
The Relay For Life of Mayfield and Graves County is planned for June 5, 2020, at Sullivan University.
