Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden says with the Memorial Day holiday rapidly approaching, and with the increase in accidents expected, GCSO is planning on putting in a special effort to enforce speed and seat belt laws.
GCSO is taking part in a statewide Click it Or Ticket campaign beginning Monday, which will extend through the holiday weekend.
On Thursday morning, Deputy Steve Halsell reported stopping William D. Weaks, 53, of the Viola community for a seatbelt violation on Ky. 1241 near Viola.
While issuing the citation, Halsell learned that Weaks was wanted on a fugitive warrant issued for Illinois State Police for alleged failure to appear in court. Illinois authorities requested Weaks be held in Graves County Jail until extradition procedures could be completed.
Weaks was arrested and taken to jail on the fugitive warrant as well as cited for failure to wear a seat belt and obstructed vision due to his windshield being broken.
