The Mayfield City Council welcomed the new city attorney, Jay Matheny, at its meeting Tuesday night. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to serve as your next city attorney. I realize that I have some incredibly big shoes to fill with my friend and college Bo Neely leaving,” Matheny said.
A native of Mayfield, Matheny is an partner attorney at Denton Law Firm in Paducah.
“One of Mayor O’Nan’s great recruitment tools is that she finds her former students,” Matheny said.
Before beginning unfinished and new business, Judge Deborah Crooks swore in Mayor Kathy O’Nan and all of the council members for the new term.
Under unfinished business, the council:
• Approved the second reading of Ordinance 14-22 the TIF pledge agreement with the Mayfield Mentor Hospitality LLC.
• Approved Ordinance 15-22, an ordinance to rezone the red zone in downtown to B3.
• Approved the second reading of Ordinance 16-22 for the City of Mayfield to participate in the Kentucky Business Investment Program (KBI).
Under new business, the council:
• Approved Resolution 12-3-22, which is a resolution to amend the purchase prices of Ordinance 8-1-22 by $2820 for the purchase of an excavator, and by $2886 for the skid steer. This resolution was correcting a raise in the price from the time in which they were ordered. The motion carried unanimously.
