A traffic stop on Ky. 80 East resulted in the arrest of a Mayfield man.
While patrolling Saturday night, a Mayfield police department officer observed a vehicle disregard a traffic light at the intersection of Ky. 80 and Ky. 97 and turn east onto Ky. 80.
The officer initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle. While speaking with the operator of the vehicle, Scott Darnell, 50, of Mayfield, the officer observed multiple open alcohol beverage containers in the rear passenger floorboard. A computer check of the operator’s driving status returned that his driving privileges were suspended, and the operator had an active bench warrant out of Graves County District Court for failure to pay fines.
A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed seven empty beer cans, a half-full beer, and two straws with which Darnell admitted to nasally ingesting Hydrocodone.
Darnell was arrested and taken to the Graves County Detention Center. He was charged with disregarding a traffic control device - traffic light, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc. (.08 - 1st Offense), operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, and possession of an open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle prohibited.
Darnell was also served a bench warrant for failure to pay fines.
