Mayfield Fire Department personnel battled not just a house fire Tuesday but intense cold.
Engines 1 and 2, as well as Ladder 1 and multiple response units, responded to a home near the intersection of South Sixth and James streets around noon following the report of a fire.
Firefighters began battling the blaze around the home, as well as above with personnel taking to Ladder 1 for an ariel assault on the fire.
Smoke could be seen for miles. Homeowner James Moore said he could see the smoke from his job at Kendor Wood near Kess Creek Park.
Moore said he and his family had lived at the house for eight years.
It was unclear Tuesday afternoon if any injuries were reported as a result of fighting the fire.
Temperatures at the time firefighters were on the scene were in the low teens.
