Police have located and charged a man with complicity to murder in connection with shots fired into a Mayfield duplex in May.

A police affidavit filed in Stanford Shelton’s public court file alleges he and Dimetri Ross “were riding in a vehicle and drove by Jerrod Powell’s residence, located at 704 West Lee Street, firing rounds into the residence. Jerrod Powell was home at the time of the incident.”

In a separate incident on June 18, SaVannnah Hancock, 23, was inside the apartment at the other end of the duplex, at 702 W. Lee St., when a shot fired through the door from the street hit her. She died two days later at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

When asked whether the two cases were related, Mayfield police Detective Brent Farmer said previously that detectives continued to investigate and try to piece together all the information they had gathered. They had served multiple search warrants and conducted interviews and were working daily on the cases, he said.

Police arrested Shelton at 1:15 p.m. Saturday. He was in custody Monday morning at the Graves County Jail under a $50,000 cash bond.
