You may have heard about the fellow who bought his wife a beautiful diamond ring for Christmas. His buddy said: “I thought she wanted a 4-wheel drive truck this year for Christmas.” The husband replied, “She did. However, I could not find a fake pickup truck!”

Friends, some things are harder to fake than others. Jewelry can more easily appear to be real than say…automobiles! Purses and clothing can more easily appear to be the authentic brand than say…weapons. Stunt doubles can more easily appear to be the star actor/actress than say…people in the real world. The point is this: some things are simply too hard to fake.

Love cannot be faked. Lip-service sometimes fool people. Hypocrisy sometimes goes undetected for a while. But, in the long run sins find one out. We might get by with fake jewelry, clothes or stunt doubles for a while but we can’t get by with fake love. Eventually, the proof is in the pudding. It’s not enough to say, “I love you” if one does not follow through with proving it on a regular and consistent basis. If someone is not good to you, they do not love you. Let us not ever become guilty of only saying to God “I love you” when He would really know the difference! Let us make the year 2022 a year of real love!

“…be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23)
