On Nov. 20 at approximately 4:10 p.m., Deputy Chandler Sirls received a complaint of trespassing at Pocket’s gas station on Paris Road while he was getting fuel in his sheriff’s office cruiser.
A clerk at the store made Sirls aware of an individual that was present in the store that has previously been banned from the property. While Sirls was speaking with the individual in question, Lorentez Sherrill, 19, of Mayfield, he fled on foot across Paris Road, behind Popeyes and into a residential area.
Sherrill was located a short time later with the assistance of the Mayfield Police Department and taken into custody. While in custody Sherrill spit on officers when they were placing him in the back of a patrol vehicle. Sherrill was charged with Criminal Trespassing, Third Degree; Disorderly Conduct, Second Degre; Fleeing or Evading Police, First Degree (On Foot); Assault, Third Degree — Peace Officer, two counts; Criminal Mischief, Third Degree; Wanton Endangerment, First Degree — Peace Officer; Failure to Notify DOT of Address Change; and Resisting Arrest.
Sherrill was also arrested for an outstanding Failure to Appear Warrant out of Illinois for a weapon’s offense. Sirls was assisted by Mayfield Police Department Lieutenant Derek Vaughn, Officer Cody Rogers and Officer Tyler Simpson, as well as Mayfield-Graves County EMS.
