The wait is finally over.
American Legion baseball returns to Mayfield this weekend.
Following a dormant 2020 season that saw the world grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mayfield American Legion Post 26 senior and junior baseball teams will return to the diamond for a loaded season.
The 2021 senior squad will include players from across western Kentucky as players from Murray High, Carlisle County, Hickman County, Graves County and Calloway County will represent Post 26.
Local players include current Graves County Eagles Everett Yates, Landon Curd and Jamison Curd, as well as 2020 GCHS graduate and former Eagle Taylor Goodwin.
At the junior level, the roster is stacked with predominantly local athletes as Mayfield’s Jaylen Bass and Kole Collins and Graves County’s Karson Elliott, Cole Katzman, Gage Munsell and the Curd brothers will make up nearly half of the team.
The season kicks off for the senior team this weekend as they’ll host nine other American Legion teams in a four day tournament at three different sites.
Games will be played at Graves County High School, Calloway County High School and Murray State University’s Johnny Regan Field from Thursday night through Sunday afternoon.
