Hickman vs. Mayfield

Mayfield forward Kade Neely (23) defends a Hickman county guard during the Cardinals’ 56-44 victory on Saturday night.

The Mayfield Cardinals moved past Hickman County in the second round of the All “A” tournament with ease on Saturday night, defeating the Falcons 56-44.

The Cardinals had three players score in double figures as Colby Kennemore led the way with 15 points while Kade Neely’s 13points and Alonzo Daniel’s 11 points followed.

Mayfield head coach Payton Croft admitted his team is feeling the effects of three straight games following the win over Hickman County.

“We came out a little sluggish,” Croft said. “We’re tired, physically and mentally from the emotional games we’ve had this last week. We would have liked to have put the game away earlier but in the end we took care of business, got the win and get to advance.”

Mayfield started out slow but got their feet underneath them in the second quarter, outscoring the Falcons 21-7 and taking a 30-20 lead into the halftime break.

Things continued to move in the Cardinals’ favor in the second half as Mayfield’s athleticism and size were too much for Hickman County to overcome.

Despite reserves playing the majority of the fourth quarter, the Cardinals still managed to escape with the double-digit victory.

Mayfield will take on the winner of Ballard Memorial/Carlisle County at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, January 17, at Mayfield High School.
