With the annual Eagle Open fundraiser for Graves County’s tennis program falling on Easter weekend this year, coach Chuck Whitnell had a difficult decision on his hands about possibly changing the date.

He noted that Easter is historically being a time for families. However, a busy tennis schedule also meant changing the tournament’s date was not an option.

But what looked to be a family conflict worked out and turned into a family affair, after all, as over half of the Eagle Open participants were related, including seven of the nine mixed doubles participants with fathers and daughters and brothers and sisters competing.

Mixed doubles winners were uncle and niece Richard and Megan Null, who played father-daughter duo of Denny and Molly Null.

Women’s doubles champions were mother-daughter teammates Rene and Audrey Lamb, and the men’s doubles winners were father and son David and Michael East.
