LEXINGTON -- Sophie Galloway is a thoroughbred who can dazzle with speed and grace and power. Saturday, among the rolling hills of the Bluegrass, she was a one-woman Triple Crown winner.

The Graves County sophomore won three events in the KHSAA Class 3A state championship track and field meet at the University of Kentucky - in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump - and again set the state record - twice in consecutive attempts - in the triple jump.

Galloway started the day with a win in the hurdles, where a false start last year cost her a possible three-win scenario. But Saturday, she breezed to a 14.45-second time that was nearly a second faster than the second place finisher.

She would then go on to take the long jump with her longest mark of 18 feet, 3.25 inches on her fifth and final attempt. Galloway had already set the bar in her four previous jumps of 18-1.75, 18-2, 16-6.75, and 17-6.

Her final test was in the triple jump, where she set the state 3A record last year with a 39-3.25 leap.

Galloway, however, broke that record in her first attempt with a 39-9.5 leap, then broke that in her next attempt that wound up as the winner of 40-7.

But hers wasn't the only top finish on the day. Graves County's unified 4x100-meter mixed relay took first place with a 55.69 time. Members of that team included Devin Burton, Logan Causey, Gary Morgan and Kendall Tubbs.

The unified 2x200 relay duo of Josh Perdue and Causey finished with third place after running in 55.94 seconds. Causey also took third with Kyler Madding in the unified long jump with a 30-2 leap.

Madding competed in the boys long and triple jumps and finished with 19th and 13th place, respectively.

Emma Hancock finished in 23rd place in the girls long jump and 25th in the high jump.
