Graves County High School ‘s first head football coach Jay Buckley was honored Friday before the Eagles’ first-round Class 5A playoff game against Breckenridge County with the naming of Jay F. Buckley Field. Buckley started the football program in 1985 and coached until 1998, amassing a record of 70-62 which included an 11-1 season in 1993 with players like Richie Floyd, Jody Goatley and John Michael Barber. He was surrounded by former players, coaches and parents and presented a plaque by Graves County Superintendent Matthew Madding. The new name of the field is displayed at the 50 yard line.
