This year, the mother-daughter duo of Vicki and Mikki McLeary were spot on when it came to Wednesday's Lady Bug Scramble at Mayfield-Graves Country Club.

The McLearys and the fellow mother-daughter team of Donna Carter and April Carter have both emerged at the top of the last two Lady Bug two-woman scrambles. The Carters won in a five-hole playoff last year. But on a picture-perfect Wednesday, the McLearys claimed this year's crown with a 63 score.

That figure was two strokes ahead of the Carters for second place in the championship flight.

Sandy Sales and Debbie Dick won the first flight with a 73, and Glenda Boyd and Sandra Van Dyke took the second flight with their 78.

On Thursday, Lady Bug organizer Leta Taylor said she was pleased with the tournament, which grew to nearly 60 participants in just its second outing since its revival in 2018.

"It was very successful and we were very pleased," she said. "It was very good and we're hoping for a bigger, better Lady Bug tournament next year."

Taylor believes the tournament's roots began with Mayfield women golfers in the 1950s or 60s, but eventually faded out over time. Her hope is for this tournament to help usher in a resurgence of ladies hitting the links.

"There are more women in the work field now and don't have time," she said. "So golf for women has gone down, but I'm real pleased with this tournament and the turnout. I had some good help."
