Collins Dodson at 2-over after first round of WKA

Mayfield’s Collins Dodson (left) launches his opening drive from the No. 1 tee box at Mayfield-Graves Country Club Saturday morning for the Independence Bank West Kentucky Amateur golf tournament’s first day. 

Despite enduring heavy afternoon rains, 10 golfers are in the championship flight hunt after Saturday’s first round of the Independence Bank West Kentucky Amateur.

Josh Rhodes leads the group with a 5-under par 65 at Mayfield-Graves Country Club. Defending WKA champion Trent Johnson is two shots back at 3-under. Greg Beale, the 2017 WKA winner, Shane Taylor, Darrick Herndon and Husten Lancaster are all at even par.

Carter Dodson is 1-over, while brother Collins Dodson, Lance Davis and Graham Crouch are all 2-over.

Chris Wilson, Blake Thomas and Cody Martin all shot 73s to pace the tournament’s first flight. Steve Frizzell leads the senior flight with a 71.

The tournament’s second round concludes today.
