Lady Cards get twin wins this week
Mayfield improved to 7-7 with a 3-1 win over Carlisle County in varsity volleyball Monday and then with a 3-1 win over St. Mary Tuesday. Against the Lady Comets, the Lady Cardinals took the first two sets by 25-18 and 25-20 margins before falling in the third, 20-25. Mayfield rebounded with a solid fourth set, 25-13, to claim the win.
Against St. Mary, Mayfield took the first set, 25-18, but fell in the second, 22-25, but iced the final two by 25-16 and 25-12 scores.
The Lady Cards will travel to play Carlisle County Thursday to close out the regular season.
Graves-Ballard face off in district match
Graves County looked to spoil Ballard Memorial’s perfect Third District volleyball record Tuesday as postseason play looms but fell 3-0 to the Lady Bombers.
The Lady Bombers entered the match 20-1 and 3-0 in the district and swept the Lady Eagles (11-9, 2-2 in district) by 25-14, 25-15 and 26-24 scores.
Graves’ regular season home finale will be Thursday when the squad hosts Webster County. They will then close out the regular season Friday at Christian Fellowship.
Madding, Smith top times at Fast Cats
In Owensboro Saturday, Graves County’s cross country team competed in the annual Fast Cats Classic meet where the Lady Eagles took fifth and the Eagles earned third in their respective 5,000 meter runs. Graves’ girls were led by Emma Madding’s 22nd finish at 21 minutes, 15.80 seconds. Graves’ boys saw Aaron Smith race to 11th with an 18:09.76 time.
Other girls’ places and times included Stella Maps, 24th, 21:35.08; Audrey Lamb, 30th, 22:13.77; Rhea Mathis, 34th, 22:37.21; Riley Nolin, 46th, 23:58.47; Christina Ivy, 47th, 24:11.06; Jenna Loath, 58th, 25:49.85.
Other boys’ places and times were Logan Davis, 15th, 18:54.65; Levi Dagger, 16th, 19:00.07; Tray Madding, 24th, 19:34.03; Richard Cope, 29th, 19:44.72; Kobe Chapman, 39th, 20:49.09.
Graves County is scheduled to host their Eagles Classic Saturday with varsity boys starting at 9 a.m.
